Harar is in the Eastern part of Ethiopia and has very little available water. This is the primary reason why no washed coffees exist from Harar. Rather, all the coffee is traditionally processed in the unwashed, natural sun-dried method. Blueberry, cocoa, and cinnamon aromas open the cup to a low acidity, full body presence which is perfect for espresso blending and brewing as well as drip brewing. We have had difficulty procuring acceptable lots from Harar in recent years. However, resulting from a recent trip to visit with these producers, we are anticipating improved qualities for the 2009 harvest and beyond.
