Conscious Coffees

Our humble beginnings

Conscious Coffees began with co-creators Mel and Mark in the early 1990s, who first got their start as baristas in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. By 1996, they had a roasting machine of their own, a handful of wholesale accounts, and some new ideas on craft roasting. Since those early days of trial and error techniques, they refined the roasting process that is now equal parts art and science.

In 2017, Craig Lamberty, a long-time businessman and coffee fanatic, purchased Conscious Coffees from Mel and Mark. Along with his wife Laura and his sister Kim, Craig dove into the world of specialty coffee, planning to grow the business without compromising the mission of socially and ecologically-responsible coffee.

Based in Boulder, CO our roastery is more like a laboratory these days. Honoring the hard work of our farmer partners, we roast every small batch of beans fresh to order.

Straight from the source

Since joining Cooperative Coffees in 2004, we have eliminated middlemen in the supply chain by importing directly from producing cooperatives and maintained long-term relationships with individual farmer cooperatives. Buying coffee from the same producer partners, year after year, enables us to maintain consistent quality and also guarantee the farmers a reliable source to sell their coffees to.
